Hello Out There,
I’m still out here, and still knitting when I can find time that my hands and brain aren’t too tired. Today I sorted a bunch of misc. stash wool that had been deemed unfit by the cleaning people. One skein had soot on it. A couple had soot on the labels. Most of it just needs to be aired or ozoned, or something.
On the down side, the same cleaning people have Done Something with some of my Joslyn’s lace weight yarns, and I don’t know where they are. Since they marked hardly touched wool as trash, I’m wondering what happened to these that were sitting out and almost certainly have a layer of soot on them I’m going to have to search boxes. In my free time. Where do you get free time anyway? I haven’t found that shop recently. Also in that category was a bit of Noro yarn that they don‘t make any more. I really want to find it and clean it, but I may take the money for replacing it too, since I doubt after much time has passed that it will clean well. No, I didn’t tell them not to bother with the yarn because I’d handle it. They told me they were only cleaning hard surfaces – dishes, wood furnature, all soft things like clothing and yarn would be left for the soft cleaners. SNAFU as usual.
I hope to have a computer system back by the end of the week. Until then, phone is the best way to reach me. If any of you have my number. Not many do I think. :- ( I’m not getting a chance to be on line or check email most of the time. I have a lap top computer borrowed for the night tonight, what a luxury. I wish my brain wasn’t so tired.
Rob and Matt sent me a stash seedling package! :- ) It was filled with wonderful soft goodies. I haven’t done more than fondle them yet, my knitting needles are either getting cleaned or replaced, but I don’t know which yet. Some of my knitting books are getting replaced; others have been cleaned by a wonderful local book caregiver who came to their (and our) rescue. I’ll list ones that are to be replaced in case any one wants a somewhat smoky smelling copy. When I have time. Don’t hold your breaths too long.
A lot of my stash yarn seems to be OK having been stored in a steamer trunk. I think I’ll be looking for another one of those – maybe with drawers or shelves in it. I don’t know how yarn in Rubbermaid faired – bins were sooty, but have gone in to storage. We are living in a little, little (27 feet doesn’t sound little) RV on our land while waiting for the house to be gutted (such a yucky word) and rebuilt inside.
Good news, my cool peacock colored bag survived just fine and awaits washing to make sure there’s nothing ucky left on it. The item I was making for that exchange, I’ll have to wait and see. That’s in a box I haven’t examined much yet.
Time to stop typing and go get a fast tepid shower. (The water heater in this RV is a joke! Are they all like this? How do people live in these things? I am not a small space person”!) I miss you all. Please comment. Or call. Or something. A couple of you do have or have had my phone number. You are welcome to give it out by email if you care to identify yourselves in the comments, or read comments and send it, or something. I don’t know when I’ll get on line again after I post this and return this computer in the AM. And I feel lonely and cut off from my blog world. Not to mention displaced from my house. Sigh.
Stoney, still trying to knit on with confidence.

Here I am
Hi folks. I'm posting, well kind of. I'm writing at a quarter past six in the morning, by flashlight, in the hotel room, with a pen, on a steno pad. Spouse will type and post for me sometime later today from work. I just can't guess when I'll get real time at a computer to write.
Thanks to all of you who commented, and all who read but didn't comment. I really appreciate the support. I feel as if I'm cut off from a physical community - I've found myself thinking that I haven't seen or talked to any of you in days. Even though I've never seen or talked to you in person. For all I know you have squeaky minny mouse voices and dye your hair green and purple. (Well I've considered the dye myself, but I don't think it would wash out as quick as I'd want it to.)
So knitting content before I get booted off the ring. I've got three projects with me - a pink fir cone/split leaf scarf, sort of like the blue one I finished last month. My nearly finished sweater, which has sat in limbo for a bit. And a hat. I'd just received the Spun Out collection from School House Press, and I'm making an E.Z. hat in some yarn I've been hoarding for years. I had seven skeins stashed away, but the are short ones. One in a gray/blue colorway, two in gray/pink and four in gray/something else. I dug out all seven, chose the first three for the hat, and put the other four on the shelf. They aren't burned, only smoke in that room. But they are going to be smelly and sooty.
Most yarn was in a trunk, or bins, or in some cases, bags. But some was sitting out in the open. My clear plastic back pack with two lace shawls in progress was in the room with the fire, where things did get burned and melted. I haven't asked spouse about that yet (spouse comment, I believe they are smoky but fine).
No, I haven't gone in. I've felt too stressed or too fragile depending on the time you ask me. I know I'm avoiding it. It's just too much right now. Insurance is going to sort, clean, rebuild and replace. Evidently we have really good insurance. CHECK YOUR POLICIES!!! Call the agent and ask them - if you have a mortgage and didn't ask for more insurance, you may not have it to replace your stuff - only the house. And if you rent - think about it. I never bothered with insurance as a renter. And I didn't know what I had as a home owner. I got lucky! Check your fire extinguishers too.
I am checking e-mail everyday or two or three. Some days I'm just not where I have any access to a computer. So e-mail if you want, but don't expect a quick answer unless I happen to be on-line the moment your email arrives. I got to say hello to Lisa in Oregon that way yesterday, which was really nice. I feel all out of touch and disconnected. I am I guess.
I think it's about time to quit writing. My daughter won't sleep much longer (actually she did), and that will be the end of my "calm quiet time". Such as it is.
Anyone want to come to Oregon for a vacation? I could use the company, but the hospitality is a little sparse right now. I could point you toward a motel and hang around and knit. :-) And the sheep and goats are all fine. I'll post again when I can. Peace!

Life turned upside down!
Hi Folks, I’m going to be off line and afk for a while. We had a fire at our house Friday night, humans are OK, some pets are OK, and the house is structurally OK. Some furniture is burned, and everything in the house is black and sooty. We're living in a hotel, without predictable computer/Internet access until I find a laptop. (Any big chains having a good sale?) The home computer seems to be running OK, but I'm not willing to go inside to use it yet. It may be a while. Right now I'm typing on Spouse's work computer. If you want to reach me, leave a comment here, and it will get relayed. If you've got my cell phone number you're welcome to call, but I'm not gonna post it, cause this is the Internet. : - ) I would love to hear from anyone though. It might save me repeating the story twelve times to the same person here. I don't know who I've told what to, but it's been suggested that talking about it is good, and I can do that.
I've got my three projects that get toted around with me to work on. I'm trying to continue to "Knit on", but it's tough. Most yarn in the house was in bins or bags, some was sitting out. If anyone has suggesting for cleaning or decontaminating smoke damaged wool, cotton, silk, angora, or mohair blends, leave me comments or links.
When I get to a computer with more time, I'll work on a full version of what happened and what we know (not much yet), but that may take a while. That will probably be available by email. When I can get to my email again. I'm really missing reading blogs and keeping up with what everyone else is doing. I'll pop around and read a few as I can, but I don't have access to my blogrolling list (which I don't post on the blog, but maybe I can figure out how to sign on to it from another computer), but I do have a decent number of links on my blog. I could use some good and calm thoughts if you've got any to spare. Peace, folks. Knit on.a

Briggs and Little Heritage
It's at The Wool Works in Canada. You have to find the left column button that says yarns, then scroll down the listing of yarns (like a whole six or eight of them) to Briggs and Little. The prices are at the bottom of the page. The how to order info is back on the first page you were at, at a link (contact and ordering maybe?) across the top. And what I did was to fill out the on line order form, hit the "send" button, and then call them during normal east coast business hours (they answered "good afternoon" at 9 am my time!) and give them my visa number over the phone. They aren't set up to take visa on line yet, but this worked just as well and I got to talk to the nice lady there and offer to trade her my daughter for the yarn. (No go. Oh well.) Even so, my size Rogue is costing $22 US. Whee!
Lisa, maybe we can have a later Rogue knit along. Humm, maybe it will be a Rogue limpalong. I looked at the graphs and the key for the symbols today and am intimidated again. Actually, I do have half a thought to trek out to the Rogue River Gorge when I am knitting it. Rogue at Rogue seems kind of cool.
I've got more to write, but things have just been hectic. The doctor prescribed a hat to cover my daughter's ears, to prevent infections and earaches and things. I think it's really a neat idea. The idea is that cold ears (and maybe cold face) can cause the estuation tubes to contract, trapping fluid and mucus. Heat should help keep them open. So I'm knitting a basic not-so-pretty striped hat with ear flaps for her in um, Lambs Pride I think. Then I'll knit one for me. Then I'll probably do a couple more in cotton, and maybe one to try sleeping in, for those cold nights. (We do get a few of them. Quit laughing you snowed in people!) We're working on another ear and or sinus infection, but we were already set to go see the Pedi tomorrow anyway, so we'll discuss that with her then. There. :-)
Oh, and on comments. I kind of like how the discussion migrated over here from Gwyn's blog. (I didn't link her, she's WollieMama in the buttons, or just look for her name in the last posts comments. I'm to lazy to link it right now. Sorry Gwyn. Next time, I promise. :-) I try to comment a lot more now than I used to because I am so thrilled when I get any comments, so I figure other people might be too. But I'm way more likely to comment if there are none or few, as other folks have said. I like seeing what people say in comments too. I almost always read comments on other folks blogs. The discussion is part of what makes this fun.
